Monowai Pinot Noir 2013

Tasting Notes

A rich burgundy red wine, with ripe berry fruit aromas complimented by spicy undertones. Smooth tannins support the flavours of dark cherry and spicy plumwith hints of spice adding a layer of complexity. A delicate balance of acidity and tannin make this a wine which will age gracefully

Winemaker's Notes

Fruit from low-yielding vines was selectively harvested at optimum ripeness, gently crushed and chilled for a pre-fermentation cold soak to extract colour and fruit flavour. The must was then warmed, inoculated with selected yeast and fermented over 7 days to dryness with a daily routine of traditional plunging to maximise tannin extraction. After pressing, the wine was matured for 18 months in French (90%) and American(10%) oak barrels.

Cellaring

This is a very approachable wine for drinking today but with enough structure and richness to develop very well over the next ten years.

Food Match

This intense Pinot Noir is a great match for venison steaks or roast duck.

Awards & Reviews

Wine Orbit - 83/100

It is nicely lifted on the nose showing red/black cherry, game and spice characters with a hint of earthy mushroom. The palate is light and refreshing and offers smooth mouthfeel and a soft finish. At its best: now to 2017
